A lot of people see God as the big, cosmic bully in the sky. The one who tells us what we shouldn’t do, slaps us around if we do what we aren’t supposed to, and has a scoring pad to keep track of all our screw-ups. I too am guilty at times of talking more about his wrath and justice than I am about his love.
He doesn’t love us because we are lovable. We aren’t. We’re selfish, wicked at heart, and a lot of people reject him. But he loves us anyway. It’s His nature. That’s the way he is. In the book of Romans, the apostle Paul tells us God showed his great love for us by sending his son to die for us. He didn’t send Jesus to condemn us but to save us.
If we believe that and ask Jesus to save us from our sin, we will spend eternity with him.
Unconditional love…get some.
