None of this stuff matters. What you believe about abortion or your view on same-sex-marriage and gender. Whether you’re an evangelical, progressive, atheist, irreverent believer, homosexual, male, or female. None of it. The only thing that matters is what do you do with, “what Jesus said?”
That other stuff isn’t going to be resolved. We can talk about it forever. But our minds are made up and nobody’s gonna change them. The government has more of an interest in those things than most of us do. Why do they care? These are emotional issues and they want to decide how we think, act, behave, vote. Doesn’t matter if you’re liberal, conservative, republican, or democrat. Each group wants to tell us what to believe. GET OUT OF MY LIFE.
What did Jesus say, exactly, about why he came to earth? I don’t care what your favorite writer says about why he came. I want to know what Jesus said about it. And there is only one place to read what Jesus said. I don’t want us to read about how we are supposed to live our life, or the fruit of the spirit or the stuff about widows, orphans, little kids, etc. Those are great and they tell us a lot about he acted. But that’s not why he came. This is what Jesus says in the Bible.
- “For the Son of Man has come to seek and to save that which was lost.”
- “Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners.”
- “For this I have been born, and for this I have come into the world, to testify to the truth. Everyone who is of the truth hears My voice.”
- -“Truth” spoken of here is all encompassing of who God, through his word, says he is. He is absolute truth. A term that makes most of us shake our heads because absolute truth leaves no margin for our feelings and interpretation. He calls us to repentance, faith, and to trust in him. Later he will establish a kingdom on earth but for now, at this moment in time, the reason he said he came is the only thing that matters. Does it matter to you?
