Give Me A Minute – Things I Read Today

I spent some time today looking at a few online news sites and the following got my attention.

A new Merrill Lynch/Age Wave survey given exclusively to USA TODAY found 70 percent of adults ages 18 to 34 received financial support from their parents within the last year, with almost three in five millennials saying they couldn’t afford their lifestyles without the support.” (FOX News)

“The partisan warfare over the Mueller report will rage, but one thing cannot be denied: Former President Barack Obama looks just plain bad. On his watch, the Russians meddled in our democracy while his administration did nothing about it. The Mueller report flatly states that Russia began interfering in American democracy in 2014. Over the next couple of years, the effort blossomed into a robust attempt to interfere in our 2016 presidential election. The Obama administration knew this was going on and yet did nothing.” (CNN)

“Two female students at a Florida middle school were arrested this week after a teacher discovered their plans to kill at least nine people, police say.” (Fox, CNN)

“A woman who pleaded guilty to reckless driving for running over her 9-year-old son while dropping him off at school in western Michigan has been ordered to serve 30 days in jail.”

“A Colorado television technician is facing felony charges for allegedly hugging a customer tightly. The 70-year-old former sheriff’s deputy said feared she might be raped. She said she pushed him away and told him to leave and he waited awhile and apologized before leaving.” (ABC News)

“Republican strategist Karl Rove said on “Fox & Friends” Friday that Sen. Bernie Sanders’ town hall on Fox earlier this week convinced him that the presidential candidate could win the Oval Office in 2020.” (FOX News)

“We have recently become aware that several songs performed by Kate Smith contain offensive lyrics that do not reflect our values as an organization,” the (Philadelphia) Flyers said in a statement to CNN. “As we continue to look into this serious matter, we are removing Kate Smith’s recording of ‘God Bless America’ from our library and covering up the statue that stands outside of our arena.” Evidently a couple songs she sang in the 1930’s have lyrics about darkies, picking cotton, and watermelon.

I opted to leave out the story about the guy in China who had a 61-pound tumor removed from his neck.
