I sat on the sofa next to my grandfather, watching him write. He had the most beautiful script and I was mesmerized as I watched. He gave the pen to me and asked me to write “Merry Christmas.”
I wrote Merry Xmas on the sheet of paper, trying my best to mimic his handwriting. He said, “Jeff, never shorten Christmas with an ‘X’.” I asked why and he said “that takes Christ out of Christmas.” He is the reason we celebrate.
I’ve never forgotten that and I encourage each of you to keep “Christ” in Christmas this year.
