Funny name for a website. I shortened it to Egydyus on May 9, 2024, and removed the reference to Flombosi (Egydyus Flombosi). That was a nickname I had for my son when he was little. He’s big now.
- Egydyus is a great, great… grandfather who lived in the 15th century. I just like his name.

I am a Christian, son, brother, husband to Kathy, father of Matt and Misty, and grandfather of 6.
This is my personal website. I use it to post some of the writing I do, links to favorite internet sites, and photographs I take. I update the site as the mood hits me. I would love it if you would subscribe.
I grew up and live in the Chicago suburbs. I retired in May 2015. My wife and I met at church when we were teenagers. I’ve tortured myself for years as a Cubs fan, and finally, 2016 was the year they won it all. I also follow the Bears and Blackhawks.
I spent six years in the Navy, most of them on a nuclear-powered fast attack submarine. The boat was the SSN 680, USS William H. Bates. I was a plank owner (a member of the crew when the boat was commissioned) and sonar guy who spent a lot of time at sea during the cold war. One of my achievements was a personal commendation during an extended patrol. We chased a new Soviet submarine for weeks, and I like to think that made a difference. The boat received the Navy Unit Citation in 1974 and 1976 while I was a member of the sonar gang. Read about us in “Blind Man’s Bluff,” page 211. We were “legendary.”
I like to read short stories (I love Flannery O’Connor), poetry, history, and books about my faith. I love CS Lewis, Henri Nouwen, and Frederick Buechner. When I want a truly exquisite book, it’s William Manchester and David McCullough.
I enjoy taking pictures, and recently I started dabbling in dioramas, watercolor painting, and mixed media. I’m not very good, and I’m generally too critical of my results, but I enjoy it.
My faith, as you see from my writing, is important to me.
Send me a note. I would love to hear from you.
