I’ve been listening to a series of lectures about the Great Reset, a movement backed by many of the world’s most powerful business leaders, government officials, and left-wing activists that wants to “push the reset button” on the global economy. Their plan would destroy the current capitalist system and replace it with progressive and modern socialist systems. So, it’s “kind of socialism, kind of communism” but “mostly just fascism.” Sort of what’s come to be called “wokeism.”

Since 2011, President Joe Biden has been a regular attendee at the  World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos, Switzerland and is a strong advocate of the “reset.”

Mark P. Mills, a physicist and development engineer, was a staff consultant to the White House Science Office under President Ronald Reagan. He’s a Northwestern Engineering faculty fellow and was named “Energy Writer of the Year” by the American Energy Society, the premier literary award for the energy sector. His lecture was entitled “Is Environmental Justice Good For The Environment?” I will provide some excerpts from what he discussed.

1. The move is to have everyone drive an electric vehicle (EV).
   • Around 500,000 pounds of materials must be dug up and processed to make the EV battery.
   • That’s about 1,000% more physical materials than what’s required for an internal combustion engine over its lifetime of operation.
   • Most of the mining takes place somewhere other than America. 
   • The U.S. is dependent on importing the minerals we need for most of our needs.
     • 100% dependent on imports of 17 key minerals
     • EV50% dependent on imports of 25 other key minerals
2. How are these mining processes impacting social justice and the environment?
   • Mining is done using equipment, people, and in some cases, shovels in the hands of children.
   • The WEF wants to abandon the use of hydrocarbons (oil, natural gas, and coal) that today supply over 80% of the world’s energy and about 98% of all transportation.
   • The current gas-turbine mechanisms that supply electricity are going to be replaced soon with solar and wind machines, which today provide around 3% of the world’s energy.
   • The economic fallout from a plan like this will be catastrophic.
3. Environmentally, solar and wind machines are like EV batteries in terms of their resource requirements.
   • To deliver an identical quantity of energy from a gas-turbine, using solar and wind, mining and processing require 4,000% more minerals to deliver the same unit of energy as a natural gas-turbine. 
   • Solar and wind machines require specific minerals and a 1,000% increase in the use of common materials like concrete, glass, and steel.
4. A 100-megawatt natural gas-fired turbine gives electricity to 75,000 houses and takes up physical space about the size of a single-family home.
   • Replacing that gas-turbine requires 20 wind turbines, each about the size of the Washington Monument and taking up about 10 square miles.
   • The process to build those 20 wind machines requires about:
     • 30,000 tons of iron ore,
     • 50,000 tons of concrete, and
     • 1,000 tons of non-recyclable plastic (fiberglass) for the turbine blades.
5. A solar solution uses about 1/3 less land than wind needs but more concrete, steel, and glass.
   • To meet peak demand when it’s needed, you’d need twice the generating capacity and land described above.
   • And, to store energy so it’s available to handle the peak demand, you’d need 10,000 tons of Tesla batteries per wind farm.

This insane plan will unleash a mineral apocalypse on the world, mainly in poor nations where most mining is unregulated. 

The world’s known reserves of these minerals are less than what’s required to build this energy transition plan.

The Great Reset is perhaps the biggest danger to capitalism and individual rights since the collapse of the Soviet Union.
